La pratique de Mathieu Lef Bouchard se situe quelque part entre l’installation, la vidéo, la vidéo performance, la sculpture et l’art sonore. Son travail n’est qu’une trace des liens conceptuels qu’il met en place dans un rapport physique, temporel et psychique. À travers l’improvisation, Mathieu développe des dispositifs poétiques pour atteindre des niveaux de perception du réel qui le dépassent. Par sa pratique, il tente de transcender sa propre existence dans l’intention d’élever ce qui lui est commun. Mathieu Lef Bouchard s’inspire de son errance du quotidien pour nourrir ce processus intuitif qu’il lie à la vie et à l’existence des choses.
Biographie
Originaire de Saint-Romuald, Mathieu Lef Bouchard exerce une pratique artistique depuis 2013 en parallèle avec ses études collégiales. C’est à travers son intérêt pour le théâtre, l’improvisation et la musique qu’il choisit finalement de s’orienter vers les arts visuels. Par le biais de sa pratique en photographie qui occupa plus de 4 ans de son parcours, Mathieu Lef Bouchard se verra transposer son intérêt pour la mise en scène photographique vers le médium vidéographique, la performance et l’art sonore. En 2020, il gradue du Baccalauréat en arts visuels et médiatique de l’Université Laval et se voit attribuer le prix Inter/Le Lieu pour son projet I Guess I Am a Real Cowboy. Il évolue également au sein du collectif musical et performatif MMV2005 depuis 2019. Il vit et travaille à Québec.

Intention
Mathieu Lef Bouchard's practice is situated somewhere between installation, video, performance video, sculpture and sound art. His work is but the trace of the conceptual links he brings about in a physical, temporal and psychological relation. Through improvisation, Mathieu develops his poetic devices to reach new levels of perceiving the real that go beyond it. By way of his practice, he attempts to transcend his own existence with the aim of elevating what is ordinary for him. Mathieu Lef Bouchard draws inspiration from his everyday wanderings to nourish this intuitive process that connects him to life and the existence of things.
Biography
Hailing from Saint-Romuald, Mathieu Lef Bouchard pursued an arts practice since 2013 alongside his college studies. It is through his interest for theatre, improvisation and music that he finally chose to turn towards the visual arts. Via his photography practice, which was his main career focus for over 4 years, Mathieu Lef Bouchard saw his interest for photographic staging shift towards the video medium, performance and sound art. In 2020, he graduated with a BFA from Université Laval and he received the Inter/Le Lieu prize for his
project I Guess I Am a Real Cowboy. SInce 2019, he has been a member of the music and performance group MMV2005. Mathieu is currently completing a MFA at Université Laval. He lives and works in Quebec City.
